Personal Project

MUNCH KINS

In collaboration with Lo & Sons

The Story

Every Christmas my sons and I bake up several batches of granola to give as gifts. Usually we pour the crunchy grains and nuts into mason jars and tie the rims with festive ribbon. Done and done.

This year I wanted to try something different. I bought food safe craft paper bags and thought I’d make a simple, classic design to stick on the bags. I’d call it Lo & Sons (Lo is my nickname). It was nice, but pretty bland, unlike the granola. My eight-year-old was unimpressed and told me the oat needed to be a guy and we should call it Munch Kins.

Back to the drawing board.

With his vision, a new name, and Phil Vintnor's Christmas Special in my subconscious, I came up with this. I got a little carried away and kept coming up with more character for each flavor profile. The 6-7 sea salt character is a fave in my house.

It was so fun! I had to share.

Mutual trust and playfulness are among the most important ingredients in branding design.
